Home Remedies for Mosquito & Bug Bites in Burlington, NJ; Essential Oil to Relieve Itching & More

Summer months are truly some of the best months of the year. Having the kids out of school, going on family vacations, having visitors, staying up late, spending more time outside, and so much more make June, July, and August so magical. As you spend more time outside you may have noticed that you and your family are getting bitten by bugs. If you have some bug bites you know how annoying they can be. What do you do to relieve the itching and irritation? Today Ross Environmental Solutions wants to share some of our favorite home remedies for bug bites.

Ice for Bug Bite Swelling

One of the simplest things you can do when you discover a bug bite is go and grab some ice. One single ice cube will do the trick. Simply place the ice cube directly on the bug bite. The ice will make the urge to itch decrease by constricting the blood vessels and decreasing your body’s natural histamine. If you do not want to use a piece of ice an ice pack or frozen bag of fruit or veggies will work too.

Stop Bug Bites Itching with Essential Oil

Essential oils have become increasingly popular over the last few years. If you have a bug bite you will want to raid your essential oils kit to see what you have that will work for your bug bites. There are a few essential oils that will work. First up is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is also called melaleuca oil by some manufacturers. Tea tree can help alleviate the itching, pain, and swelling. It can also help prevent infection. If you do not have tea tree oil look for lavender oil. Lavender oil can help soothe the area. It will not reduce the swelling or prevent infection but it relieves the pain and itching. Some essential oil companies have their own unique blend specifically for bug bites. If you frequently get bug bites you may want to purchase that.

How to Use Vinegar for Mosquito Bites

Vinegar is an excellent home remedy for bug bites. The acidity in vinegar helps neutralize any venom that might by in your body and will calm any stinging feeling that you have. You will want to dilute the vinegar with some water (use equal parts water and vinegar) and apply it to the bite with a cotton ball. You can use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.

Milk for Insect Bites

Another great option. Go and get the milk out of your fridge and simply dab it onto the bite with a cotton ball. The protein in the milk will help reduce inflammation, reduce redness, and reduce swelling.

Tea Bag on Bug Bites

If you are dealing with itching and swelling as a result of the bug bite you may want to try a tea bag. Brew up a cup of tea. When you are done with the tea bag let it cool for a few minutes and then apply it to the bug bite. You will notice that your bug bite feels better almost immediately.

Honey Bug Bite Treatment

When you are dealing with an extremely itchy bug bite get out your honey and apply some to the bite. Though there is not evidence that the honey actually helps with itchiness or swelling the sheer fact that it is sticky prevents most people from wanting to put their fingers on the bite again.
